Except Han always knows what he's saying...Chewbacca's not unintelligible, he's simply speaking Wookie. He's no more unintelligible than a person speaking Chinese (assuming you don't).

I'm not sure anyone can be sure that Han actually understood Chewie -- for all we know he was a bit crazy and/or a dick. Also, I always liked to assume that Chewie was speaking a ghetto version of Wookiee, much like Ebonics and Latin is to us.

Fair enough. There was definitely some indication that Chewbacca was from a very rough part of Kashyyyk; as evidenced by his "East Kashyyyk High School" t-shirt in episode three.
